Nine years after the war Harry Potter was twenty-seven and working as an Auror liaison in the Ministry's Department of Magical Law Enforcement. The scars on his chest had faded to pale lines but the memories had not. Draco Malfoy was also twenty-seven and served as a junior undersecretary in the same department after years of probation and careful rehabilitation of the Malfoy name. They avoided each other in the corridors yet their paths crossed at every interdepartmental meeting.
It began at a late-night gathering in the Ministry atrium following the successful passage of a new magical creature protection bill. Colleagues from both sides had been drinking firewhisky and someone suggested a round of dares to lighten the mood. Pansy Parkinson smirked and pointed at Harry. "Potter I dare you to spend one hour alone with Malfoy in his office without hexing him." Laughter rippled through the group. Harry met Draco's cool grey gaze across the room. Draco raised an eyebrow his posture stiff in his tailored robes.
"Accepted" Harry said before he could think better of it. Draco's lips thinned but he nodded once. The group cheered and the two men walked in silence to the empty offices on the fourth floor. The door clicked shut behind them. The room smelled of parchment and the faint citrus of Draco's cologne.
"This is ridiculous" Draco said leaning against his desk arms crossed. "We are not children anymore Potter. We both have responsibilities." Harry shrugged shedding his outer robe revealing the fitted shirt beneath. "Then let's get it over with. One hour. No hexes." They sat in opposite chairs at first trading barbs about old Quidditch matches and Ministry politics. The conversation shifted when Draco mentioned his mother's recent illness and the quiet way he managed the manor alone now. Harry listened his green eyes softening for a moment.
The hour stretched. Draco poured two glasses of elf-made wine from a hidden cabinet. Their fingers brushed when Harry accepted his glass. The touch lingered longer than necessary. Draco's breath caught the way it had during their schoolyard confrontations but now it carried something warmer. Harry set the glass down and stood moving closer. "You always did like pushing boundaries" he said voice low.
Draco stood too his height almost matching Harry's. "And you always charged straight into them." The dare had been simple yet the air between them thickened with years of unresolved history. Draco's hand rose almost of its own accord and brushed a stray lock of dark hair from Harry's forehead. Harry leaned into the touch instead of pulling away.
What followed unfolded slowly at first. Draco's mouth found Harry's in a kiss that started sharp with old anger and softened into something hungry. They moved together against the desk papers scattering to the floor. Harry's hands worked open Draco's shirt revealing the lean muscle of a man who had rebuilt himself after disgrace. Draco's fingers mapped the familiar lightning scar on Harry's chest with unexpected reverence. "This changes nothing" Draco muttered against Harry's throat even as his hips pressed forward.
Clothing fell away in heated layers. Harry sank to his knees first taking Draco in his mouth with a determination that made the blond's knees buckle. Draco's hands tangled in black hair guiding with precise commands that Harry met with equal defiance. They switched positions Draco returning the favor with aristocratic thoroughness his tongue and lips drawing gasps from the Savior of the Wizarding World. The office desk became their stage legs wrapping around hips as they moved together skin sliding on skin sweat-slick and urgent.
Draco entered Harry with careful preparation using a whispered lubrication charm they both knew from their school days. The rhythm built from tentative to fierce Harry's legs locked around Draco's waist urging harder deeper. Words spilled between them - insults that had become endearments "You arrogant git" "Shut up and move Malfoy." Release came in tandem Harry spilling first across their stomachs then Draco following with a broken moan.
Afterward they lay tangled on the rug breathing hard. Draco traced circles on Harry's back neither speaking of what the dare had unleashed. The Ministry clock chimed midnight signaling the hour was long past. Draco sat up first reaching for his wand to tidy the room yet his eyes lingered on Harry's form with something new and uncertain.
"This was a mistake" Draco said but the words lacked conviction. Harry only smiled and pulled him back down. Footsteps echoed in the corridor outside and a familiar voice called Draco's name.
"We are not finished Potter" Draco whispered as the door handle turned.
