The villa glowed with candlelight that flickered across velvet drapes and polished marble floors. Music swelled from the ballroom where guests in elaborate masks swirled together like secrets given form. I adjusted the silver half-mask over my eyes and stepped deeper into the crowd, the rented air heavy with perfume and anticipation.
Across the room a tall figure in a black mask caught my attention. His suit fit like it had been tailored for the night alone. He stood still while others danced, one hand holding a glass of dark wine. When our eyes met through the slits of our masks, something shifted in the space between us.
I crossed the floor and stopped before him. "You look bored," I said.
He tilted his head. "Only until someone interesting arrives." His voice was low, edged with amusement that made me want to test its limits.
We danced. My hand rested on his shoulder while his palm pressed warm against the small of my back. The music slowed and he pulled me closer until our thighs brushed. I felt the first flicker of control when I leaned in and whispered, "Follow me outside."
He obeyed at first. On the balcony the night air cooled our skin. I turned and kissed him, tasting wine and heat. His hands stayed at his sides until I guided them to my waist. Then he gripped harder, spinning me so my back met the stone railing. The power had already begun to tilt.
Inside again we slipped through a side corridor to a smaller room lined with books and a low couch. I pushed him onto the cushions and straddled his lap, fingers working the buttons of his shirt. He let me until suddenly his hands caught my wrists and he reversed us, pinning me beneath him. His mouth traced my throat, teeth grazing just enough to make me arch.
Clothing came away in slow stages. I slipped free of my dress and watched him shed jacket and shirt. When I reached for his belt he caught my wrist again, yet moments later I had him on his back once more, my lips exploring the line of his collarbone down to his chest. Every time one of us claimed the lead the other stole it back with a touch or a murmured command.
His fingers traced the curve of my breast, circling until my nipple tightened under the attention. I returned the favor by sliding my palm down his stomach and wrapping my hand around him, stroking once, twice, feeling him harden fully against my grip. He exhaled sharply and flipped me again, parting my thighs with his knee. His mouth followed, warm and deliberate, tongue moving in slow strokes that made my hips lift. I threaded fingers through his hair and tugged, guiding the rhythm until he growled and pulled away to kiss me hard on the mouth, letting me taste myself on his tongue.
I rolled us once more. Straddling him, I sank down inch by inch, the stretch and fullness pulling a shared groan from both of us. His hands gripped my hips, trying to set the pace, but I held still until he relented. Only then did I begin to move, rolling my body in a steady rhythm that built heat low in my belly. He sat up, arms banding around my waist, and thrust upward to meet me. The control slipped again.
Sweat slicked our skin. I bit his shoulder lightly and he answered by sucking a mark just below my ear. We moved from the couch to the floor, then back again, each shift accompanied by the soft sounds of skin meeting skin and the occasional sharp intake of breath. When I felt close I slowed deliberately, denying us both until his hand slid between us and circled exactly where I needed. The orgasm rolled through me in waves; he followed seconds later, shuddering beneath me with my name - or the name he imagined - on his lips.
Afterward we lay tangled on the couch, masks still in place though crooked. His fingers traced idle patterns on my thigh while mine rested over his heart. The villa's distant music drifted through the walls like a reminder that the night continued elsewhere.
Neither of us spoke for several minutes, content to let the silence stretch until a single line from him broke it and left the air charged once more.
