Eight years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Ginny Weasley had carved out a solid career in the Department of Magical Games and Sports at the Ministry. At twenty-seven she still carried the fire of her Quidditch days, but now it fueled negotiations over international leagues and the occasional tense meeting with former rivals turned colleagues. Luna Lovegood worked two floors down in the Department of Mysteries, her dreamy observations now applied to experimental charms that sometimes made the lift lurch unexpectedly.
Their friendship had survived the war and the awkward years after. Luna would drift into Ginny's office with a sandwich or a strange trinket from Diagon Alley, and Ginny would drag her out for drinks at the Leaky Cauldron. They talked about everything except the one thing that had begun to hum beneath every conversation: the way Luna's pale eyes lingered, or how Ginny's pulse quickened when Luna's fingers brushed hers while passing a quill.
Today the Atrium was quiet. Ginny had stayed late to finish reports on the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. She heard the soft pad of Luna's boots before she saw her.
"Ginny," Luna said, voice light as always, "I brought you a Nargle-repelling charm. It looks like a paperclip but it sings when it's working."
Ginny laughed, the sound echoing off the marble. "Thanks, Luna. Sit with me a minute?"
They settled on the bench near the fountain. Luna's radish earrings swayed as she turned to face Ginny fully. "I've been thinking about something for a long time. Since the war ended, really. I never said it because I didn't want to lose this." She gestured between them. "Our friendship."
Ginny's stomach tightened. She knew that tone. Luna was about to say something true and strange and possibly life-changing. "Go on."
"I love you," Luna said simply. "Not the way we love friends who've fought beside us. The way that makes my chest feel like it's full of wrackspurts when you smile at me. I want to kiss you. I have for years."
The confession hung in the air like a held breath. Ginny felt the eight years of careful distance collapse. She reached out, cupped Luna's cheek, and the kiss that followed was tentative at first, then hungry. Luna tasted of peppermint and the faint ozone of the Department of Mysteries. Ginny's fingers threaded through silver-blonde hair, pulling her closer.
They broke apart only when the lift chimed. "My flat," Ginny managed. "Or yours."
"Yours is closer," Luna said, eyes bright with something new and certain.
They Apparated straight from the Atrium after hours, landing in Ginny's modest wizarding manor on the edge of Ottery St Catchpole. The house still smelled faintly of Molly's cooking even though Ginny lived alone now. The door shut behind them with a click that felt final.
Luna's hands were already at the buttons of Ginny's Ministry robes. "I've imagined this," she whispered. "Your skin under my hands. The sounds you might make."
Ginny shrugged the heavy fabric off her shoulders, revealing the simple camisole beneath. She tugged Luna's own robes open, revealing the soft curve of her breasts and the constellation of faint scars from the war. They moved to the bedroom without words, clothes falling in a trail across the wooden floor.
On the bed Ginny pressed Luna down gently, kissing her throat, then lower. Luna arched with a soft sigh that turned into a moan when Ginny's tongue circled a nipple. Hands explored: Ginny's strong Quidditch-callused palms sliding over Luna's hips, Luna's fingers finding the heat between Ginny's thighs and stroking with dreamy patience that quickly built into urgency.
"Tell me what you want," Ginny breathed against Luna's stomach.
"You," Luna answered. "Inside me. Slow at first."
Ginny reached for her wand, murmured a lubrication charm, and slid two fingers into Luna's slick warmth. Luna gasped, hips lifting. Ginny moved with her, curling her fingers, learning the rhythm that made Luna's breath hitch. When Luna came it was with a low, wondering cry, her body clenching around Ginny's hand.
They switched positions. Luna's mouth on Ginny was exploratory and thorough, tongue flicking, lips sucking until Ginny's thighs trembled and she pulled Luna up for another kiss, tasting herself. They rocked together, legs tangled, until Ginny followed Luna over the edge with a sharp gasp.
Afterward they lay tangled in sweat-damp sheets, Luna tracing idle patterns on Ginny's arm. "That was better than any Nargle hunt," Luna said softly.
Ginny laughed, pulling her closer. The night stretched ahead, full of new discoveries, but already the hook of tomorrow whispered: what would happen when they returned to the Ministry as something more than friends?
